L.A. councilman hosts monthly food box distribution – Daily News

Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, partnering with the Salvadoran American Leadership and Education Fund, and the Sustainable Economic Enterprises of L.A. hosted their first monthly food box distribution to aid residents of Council District 13 on Saturday in Chinatown at O’Farrell’s district office.

They sought to help those who found themselves facing economic difficulties due to the pandemic.

The food distributions will take place on the second Friday of every month through 2021, a Thursday news release said.

“As my constituents continue to struggle due to the pandemic, my office is doubling down on our efforts to keep people fed and housed, moving forward with our work to help our most vulnerable residents and their families,” O’Farrell said in a statement.

Residents in the 13th Council District can register for the monthly event by emailing Julio Ramos of the Salvadoran American Leadership and Education Fund at [email protected], or by calling or texting 213-246-2471.

“COVID-19 has impacted all communities. We have seen the loss of jobs increase food insecurities in the most vulnerable communities across Los Angeles,” Executive Director Jocelyn Duarte said in a statement. “We will provide essential resources like healthy and culturally sensitive foods as well as information to connect residents to healthcare services and other vital resources.”
