MUMBAI: A fire broke out in a thermocol packaging company on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway at Nalasopara on Saturday evening. While no injuries were reported, the factory was charred.
At around 5.15pm, huge smoke was noticed on the highway near Nalasopara phata. The fire erupted in a factory in Kantaria compound. While the cause of the fire has not been ascertained, Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) fire brigade personnel said that massive damage was caused to property.
The smoke from the fire engulfed the locality and spread to over a kilometer. Motorists on the highway complained of the heavy smoke cloud.

Earlier in the day, a fire was reported from the industrial estate in Gavraipada, Vasai (east). No injuries were reported. Firemen pulled out seven gas cylinders to safety from the coating manufacturing company. The fire that occured at around 11.30 am was believed to be due to a short circuit.
