Sal’s Pizza Factory isn’t a New York-style pizzeria. It’s Jersey style, and don’t you fuggedaboutit. “It’s better than New York,” co-owner Fabio Durazzo says.
Ever since opening in 2018, Sal’s crispy by-the-slice and whole pizza pies have been wildly popular in east Charlotte. During the pandemic, they expanded their delivery radius and found a new base of fans in and around Dilworth.
Those fans are the reason owners Durazzo, Toby Hufhand, and Rosario Colandrea are expanding. Sal’s will open its second location in Dilworth at 2212 Park Road in early November. It takes over the former Chi’s Pizza space next to Persuasian near Ed’s Tavern and Comet Grill.

The new location will be open for takeout, delivery, and by-the-slice to-go. The east Charlotte location remains closed for dine-in and is only open for takeout and delivery due to the pandemic.
Background: Durazzo named the pizzeria “Sal’s” after his father, Sal, who owned a pizza place in New Jersey. Hufhand was the first customer in the door at Sal’s on Monroe Road when it opened. Soon after, he got involved doing work behind the scenes.
Menu: At the new location, expect the same menu of pizza, cheesesteaks, pastas, and more. Of the pizza, Hufhand says, “It’s thin, but it still holds up,” meaning you don’t have to fold it. The most popular pies are the Sal’s Special, the meatlovers, and the grandma vodka sauce pizza. Pies run $11.95 to $24.95.
