Each year millions of cattle, sheep, horses and other farm animals in the United States are provided little or no shelter from severe weather.
As a result, tens of thousands of neglected animals suffer and die needlessly from exposure to the elements. Instead of providing the shelter needed, livestock producers merely chalk up the number of those who perish and then are rewarded with a government check.
The Humane Farming Association was the first and only organization to expose and challenge this wasteful program. And are working to stop these government payments to livestock producers who fail to protect their animals from deadly weather conditions.
When HFA first began the National Veal Boycott, veal production was the most rapidly expanding segment of the meat industry. After years of unwavering activism, veal consumption is now at an all-time low. As noted in the New York Times, HFA has led “the most successful animal rights boycott in the United States.” HFA’s anti-cruelty campaigns have exposed the reality of factory farming to literally millions of people.
HFA also operates Suwanna Ranch, the nation’s largest farm-animal rescue facility.They are providing emergency care and refuge to more than 1,300 animals rescued during the course of animal-cruelty investigations and prosecutions.
HFA continues to lead the charge against regressive factory farm-backed legislation.They are currently working to defeat attempts by agribusiness in Massachusetts that would repeal a voter-approved animal-protection measure and would reduce the amount of living space for egg-laying hens to just one square foot per bird.
Such agribusiness and factory farming are producing huge amounts of carbon dioxide waste which is fueling global warming extreme weather for causing devastating tornadoes recently in the United States.
Adopting a plant-based diet will greatly reduce the severe effects of deadly environmental destruction.
