MORGANTOWN — Kids in the area got a chance to mark the weekend between Christmas and New Year’s on Saturday with an artistic expression of a unicorn — courtesy of The Wow Factory in Morgantown.
The Wow Factory offers Kids Kanvas, which is a weekly guided canvas painting for kids 5-12 with instruction and supplies included, according to the business’s Facebook page.
“We normally ask that people sign up ahead of time,” Wow Factory employee Brooke Saab said in between instructions to the day’s canvas students, adding that folks can sign up online, in store or call. “We post on our website … what the painting is going to be for the week.”
The subject of Kids Kanvas changes each week and are often seasonal, with some unique offerings dashed throughout — like Saturday’s unicorn, according to Saab.
“We’ll have some new ones coming up in the springtime,” she said, adding that one for “Trolls 2” is in the works.
At this week’s event, two children and their families gathered around as Saab guided the kids through the unicorn-making process — from color selection and placement to brushstroke techniques — tailoring her instruction for each child and their individual visions.
“We come here a lot to do pottery,” Katie Roupe said as she watched her daughter, Bailey, paint. This was the family’s first Kids Kanvas event, but The Wow Factory is a regular stop because of the atmosphere. “The workers are extremely friendly. Everyone’s very helpful and great with kids.”
While the kids in attendance come to get a lesson, they get to take things in their own direction for a unique final product — and that just happens to be one of Saab’s favorite parts.
“We have the basic sketch, but the kids always like to put their own twist on it, which is cute,” she said. “Also, just to see our regulars coming back and how much better they get every time … is nice.”
The cost of Kids Kanvas is $25. For more information, visit https://www.wowfactoryonline.com/ or call 304-599-2WOW.
