Williamson CO EMA holds drive-thru pet food distribution

MARION (WSIL)–We often hear of food giveaways for people, but Tuesday morning the food went to pets.

The Williamson County Emergency Management Agency held a drive-thru pet food distribution.

The E-M-A partnered with Greater Good Charities of Chicago and the Illinois Department of Agriculture to bring dog and cat food and kitty litter to people throughout southern Illinois.

Most of the food went to Humane Societies and other animal shelters and the EMA decided to use the leftovers to help local pet owners.

“It seems like the Humane Society, their numbers have went up drastically since COVID has hit so this is just one more thing that we could possibly help with, the communities with, is feeding their animals as well,” said EMA Director for Williamson County Kelly Norris.

The socially distanced event gave out the pet food until it was gone.
That was 15 pallets, at 11,000 pounds a piece.
