Wichita County adopts procurement policy

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Wichita County Commissioners Court adopted a procurement policy on Monday which will help the county manage the budget better in a multitude of ways.

For example, if a county organization wants to buy equipment, supplies or even vehicles, those costs are now taken out of the contingency fund’s budget instead of other general funds. The county will also be able to look and see if someone is barred from getting federal money.

“If the sheriff is buying 14 patrol cars, they will be in that so he has to come back to the court,” Wichita County Judge Woody Gossom said. “We can take large purchases and try to monitor it for cash flow.”

Judge Gossom said the county will still be able to work with organizations if they run into financial problems, but overall the policy will help control and track unexpected spending.

Most importantly, the policy means the county won’t pay anyone who already owes them money, aligning with state law and helping the county budget tighten up.
