The Uttar Pradesh government, on Wednesday, extended the wheat procurement season till June 30 to ensure no wheat farmer faces inconvenience.

The extended period is expected to benefit farmers.

Chairing a high level review meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials that the wheat procurement should be continued till June 30 and the order for extension of purchase period should be issued with immediate effect. “We are committed to ensuring farm prosperity,” he said.

The Yogi-led government in Uttar Pradesh is determined to safeguard the interests of the farmers. The chief minister also asked officials to make adequate arrangements ahead of monsoon for the protection of the wheat being procured.

“The endeavour is to ensure that there is no loss to farmers. Payment will be credited into their accounts. This is the responsibility of the government,” he said.

In view of the instructions given by the chief minister, the Food and Civil Supplies department is preparing to transfer food grain to the depots to save it from rain.

The Uttar Pradesh government has so far purchased wheat worth over Rs 651 crore at the minimum support price till June 14 in the ongoing 2022-23 marketing year. This has benefitted about 85,000 farmers in the state and the payment is being made within 72 hours of the purchase directly to their bank accounts.
