What if earthquake occurs in Jordan? Specialist

Saturday, Nour Al-Sa’ayed, a disaster risk reduction specialist, said that all competent authorities should prepare for disasters as a precaution and make this a top priority.

She pointed out that Jordan is not immune to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and heatwaves, therefore there must be precautionary measures that are in line with international standards.

Sa’ayed spoke about a study to determine the places of danger in the capital, Amman, as well as three scenarios that were developed in the event of a disaster taking place such as earthquakes or floods, in addition to collapses, while focusing on weak points in the infrastructure.

She noted that high risk earthquake zones were found in Amman for which a plan was developed and the Civil Defense Directorate and the Amman Municipality were provided with a copy of the plan.
