There will be two-way traffic through Falmouth’s town centre for nearly two months when electrical works restart tomorrow.
Phase four of the Western Power Distribution (WPD) works to improve cabling in Church Street will last until March 27.
Cobbles will be reinstated and cables switched over from the exit of Church Street car park up to Arwenack Street.
There will be two-way traffic in Market Street controlled by traffic lights so that the car park may remain open.
In an email to local businesses, town manager Richard Gates said that the two-way traffic “will create challenges.
“While this has been mentioned and discussed before via Traders meetings and updates it will take some settling in for drivers/pedestrians to get used to.”
The fifth and final phase of the work is expected to take just over three weeks between November 2 and 26.
The project is being undertaken in order to improve a 70-year-old power system that is insufficient for the town’s current needs and has seen frequent power cuts.
Originally planned to take up to five years, it was announced in July that WPD expects to finish ahead of schedule.
Business owners have said that their operations have been disrupted by the work due to its apparent effect on footfall in the town.
WDP, however, have previously said that the work is essential and has been scheduled as to create the least amount of disruption possible.
