Those wanting to do their part to help those within the city of Jackson cope with the ongoing water crisis can participate in a bottled water drive hosted by the City of Gluckstadt in partnership with the Gluckstadt Madison Business Alliance.
The City of Gluckstadt is asking their residents and anyone else wanting to help to consider donating cases of bottled water or unopened gallon jugs of water to provide clean water for Jackson’s residents for drinking, cooking and hygiene purposes. Donations can be dropped off at Gluckstadt City Hall during business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drive will be ongoing through September 30.
“I think that neighbors ought to help out each other,” Gluckstadt Mayor Walter Morrison said. “That is the bottom line. It doesn’t matter where the neighbors live – they ought to help out each other. Sooner or later, somebody living in the City of Gluckstadt is going to need similar help, and we would certainly appreciate it at the time from our neighbors. So, it is just the right thing to do in that respect.”
Morrison said Gluckstadt’s City Clerk Lindsay Kellum and Director of Gluckstadt Madison Business Alliance Elizabeth Tyler sent him an email the evening of August 29 asking what he thought about the idea of a bottled water drive.
“I said it was a great idea, and by the next day at noon, they already have 12 pallets of water,” Morrison said. “I’m so proud of Lindsay and Elizabeth for their thoughtfulness and organizational skills. It is all fantastic.”
Kellum said Parker Sullivan with Sullivan’s Grocery was the first to donate pallets on the first day of the drive with 12 in the first two days. Germantown Wine and Spirits and Fueltime owners, Sonia and Rav Bedi, also sprang to action on the first day donating a pallet.
“It is just amazing for day one,” Kellum said. “We have the best community!”
