Walgreens’ building in Austintown sold to couple

AUSTINTOWN — The Walgreens near the corner of Meridian Road and Mahoning Avenue was sold for $5.4 million to two people in Dallas, but, according to a company spokesperson, the deal won’t impact operations at the pharmacy and retailer.

The sale to Hai K. and Mai P. Nguyen was final Aug. 6, according to the Mahoning County Auditor’s office.

The 14,736-square-foot store, 40 N. Merdian Road, was built in 2008. It is valued at $1.48 million and sits on 1.7 acres near the busy intersection by the Youngstown border.

The building was previously owned by Merchandise Inc., a Hamilton County-based beauty and cosmetic supply wholesaler that bought it for $4.2 million in December 2009.

In May, Walgreens closed its location on Midlothian Boulevard as part of a cost management program.

The Meridian Road store “is not impacted, and there is no indication that we’ll change course,” according to an email from Walgreens spokesperson Kris Lathan, who also wrote “the deal had no impact on our operations” and it is “business as usual for us.”
