Vicari pub closes, grilled cheese window opens, Sugar Factory opening date set and more

After being away almost eight months, Bakehouse 46 is back in Birmingham in a bigger space.

The Birmingham store, which opened Aug. 8, will host a grand opening celebration Friday and Saturday at its new location at 250 W. Maple Road. The first 46 customers will receive $46 and 15 percent off for life, according to Bakehouse 46 Brand and Marketing Director Chelsea Smith.

The new shop is in an 1,800-square-foot space previously occupied by Adventures in Toys, which closed last year. Smith said the business is locked into a “several-year” lease, but declined to provide more information.

The new location has seating for 35-40 guests, four times as much as the former location. Fully staffed, it will have 20 employees.

Bakehouse 46, which offers a variety of cupcakes along with donuts and cider, sandwiches and coffee, was forced out of its previous Old Woodward location after its building was sold to make room for a CB2 store, a Crate & Barrel offshoot.

The move comes as the company is set to expand further. Locations in Grosse Pointe and Ferndale are planned to open Oct. 1 and Jan. 1, respectively. The Ferndale location at 301 W. Nine Mile Road will operate out of the former Cupcake Station space.
