Santiago, Chile, June 2022 . DHL Supply Chain, a leading logistics company in the world and part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, announces its alliance with Vestas Wind Systems A/S, a Danish company specializing in the design, manufacture, maintenance, sale and installation of wind turbines globally, with the objective of supporting the growth plan of the leading company in sustainable energy.
This alliance between the two companies reinforces the commitment of both companies to promote their environmental goals, considering that Vestas was named earlier this year by the Corporate Knights consultancy as the most sustainable company in the world. On the other hand, DHL Supply Chain has established, in recent years, clear objectives in terms of CO2 reduction in both its transport and storage solutions by incorporating the use of clean energy in its operations.
During the start of operations, Claudemir Alves Costa, Head of LATAM Supply Chain Operations at Vestas , stated “ we are very proud of the alliance with DHL Supply Chain Chile, as we ensure the best logistics and safety for our teams. From a more modern distribution center – with nearly 3,000 m2, located in a strategic area with access to the main intermodal roads in the country – we will assist and accompany the operation and maintenance of wind projects in key markets such as Chile, Peru and Bolivia ”. He further added that “ the speed of the logistics system is essential to support service and maintenance operations, which optimize energy production and provide reliability during the useful life of wind projects .”
It is worth mentioning that it was in 2001 when Vestas installed its first wind turbine in Chile with the Alto Baguales project. Allowing that today, after more than 20 years, the company has more than 1.4 GW of wind capacity installed or under construction in Chile, which represents about 40% of the national capacity and in view of the world trend of best practices of environmental care; Vestas faces a constant increase in its demand, and the correct management of the supply chain is essential for the success of the operation. That is why its alliance with DHL Supply Chain is key to meeting this challenge and establishing sustained growth.
Germán Arango, General Manager of DHL Supply Chain for Peru, Argentina and Chile highlighted “We are very happy with this new alliance with VESTAS Chile, which allows us to continue deepening our development as a logistics operator. This marks a milestone for DHL Supply Chain Chile, especially since it is a company that has a real commitment to sustainability and care for the environment, just like us. We hope to continue working hand in hand to help them in their operation and continue as protagonists in their industry, for our part, we are very excited to be part of the wind energy supply chain in our country ”.
With the new distribution center in Santiago, Chile, Vestas proposes to support the growth of the Chilean market for at least 5 years, and in this sense, DHL Supply Chain is providing its storage capacity as well as technologies for efficient energy management.
