Lewisville, Texas (December 28, 2020) — Upper Trinity Regional Water District (Upper Trinity) was recently recognized as an Exemplary Wholesaler by the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE), a national leader in promoting water use efficiency and water conservation. The recognition was received after review of Upper Trinitys Water Conservation Plan (Plan), which was adopted by its Board of Directors in May of 2019.
Like many other wholesale and retail water providers in Texas, Upper Trinity must have a Water Conservation Plan, which meets certain basic requirements, and update it every five years. Upper Trinity is one of two wholesale agencies within AWE to receive this designation.
“Water conservation is a part of Upper Trinitys long-range water supply plan to provide for the future water needs of our growing area,” stated Larry N. Patterson, Executive Director of Upper Trinity. “Our conservation program has many successful education and outreach programs, including Water My Yard, demonstrations for students and teachers, irrigation system checkups and others.”

AWE maintains the G480-13 Water Conservation Program Operation and Management Standard (G480 Standard), which is a voluntary standard that can be adopted by water providers at their own discretion. The G480 Standard describes the elements of an effective water conservation program that helps to ensure a water provider is maximizing the water efficiency and reducing loss within its own system and the highest level of water conservation by residents and other water users.
The G480 Standard includes the following as examples of the voluntary requirements:
- Dedicated staff for conservation efforts
- Conservation planning
- Public information and education
- Non-promotional water rate
- Landscape efficiency program
- Water loss control program
Upper Trinity is proud to be recognized as an Exemplary Wholesaler by the Alliance for Water Efficiency, said Mr. Patterson. Water is precious resource and essential to our daily lives, so each of us must do our part today to save water for the future.
