Nashik: The district supply office, taking note of the complaints that goods are being sold at inflated prices, on Saturday conducted searches at 32 shops.
District collector Suraj Mandhare on Sunday informed that two of the 32 shops were sealed after officials found that the grocery shop owners were selling goods at inflated prices.
“With people hitting the panic button after the 21-day lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister, some shop owners increased the price of the goods. We received several complaints following which the searches were carried out,” Mandhare said.
“We sent our teams across the city and they learnt that the feed from the wholesalers had grown costlier. Besides, we also got calls from the retailers that the prices have been hiked by the wholesalers. We therefore conducted raids at grocers across the district,” said. district supply officer,Nashik, Arvind Narsikar.
Of these, two shops – one wholesaler and one fair price shop under the public supply department – were found involved in malpractice following which they were sealed.
“At the first shop in Nashik Road area, the grain and other goods with the dealer were sub-standard as well. We have sealed the shop and called the food and drugs administration (FDA) to collect the samples for testing,” he said. The officer also pointed out the ration shop in Nashik city was inspected after they received a number ofcomplaints.
