Turkish Cargo sees 7.1% tonnage surge in 2019

Turkish Cargo recorded a 7.1% tonnage increase in 2019 compared with a global air cargo market that fell by 4.4%.

Citing data from airfreight market analyst World ACD, a spokesperson for Turkish Cargo said that the carrier had the largest growth rate among the top 10 airlines.

It also rose to seventh place in the international air cargo industry after increasing its global market share to 4.1%.

Said the spokesperson: “Turkish Cargo keeps growing in Far East and America markets

“On the basis of the tonnage sold, the successful air cargo brand has grown by 17.1% in North and South America, 14.1% in the Far East Region, 9.7% in South Western Europe, 4.7% in the Middle East and South Asia, and 7.1% in Africa.”

The spokesperson said that Turkish Cargo is “thus achieving positive results in all regions wherein it provides air cargo service, and kept growing steadily in these regions.”

In addition to the Turkish Airlines’ passenger aircraft bellyhold cargo capacity, the carrier’s cargo arm operates direct freighter flights to 88 destinations.

A separate investor release by Turkish Airlines in January reported that cargo/mail carried during January-December 2019 increased by 9.2% over the same 12 months in 2018 to just over 1.5m tons.
