KUALA LUMPUR: Treated water, diverted to the distribution system from 1am onwards, has seen some affected areas began receiving their supply.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said its personnel at the moment are in the midst of stabilising pressure on the main pipeline as well as the main treated water pools.
“Recovery of water supply to customers will occur in stages depending on the geographical position and the altitude of the customer’s premises. Areas close to the distribution system are expected to receive supply in earlier and vice versa,” said Air Selangor in an update this morning.
The utility company also said the Health Ministry (KKM) and the National Water Service Commission (SPAN) had also monitored and conducted checks on the water quality at the treatment plant and treated water pools.
“Based on the tests conducted, both KKM and SPAN confirmed that the treated water followed the KKM standards and no odour pollution was detected in the water treatment and at the treated water pool and as such is safe to be supplied to consumers,” said Air Selangor.
It expects water supply to be fully restored in the 72 affected areas.
In another development, Air Selangor said the Bukit Tampoi water treatment plant will continue to be closed until further notice as the odour pollution was still present at the water intake location.
It added that while the water supply was being restored, emergency relief via water tankers would continue to be mobilised to affected areas.
“Eleven local service centres will continue to operate 24 hours, including additional public taps in four locations, bringing the total to 18.
“We will also distribute five-litre bottled water to those affected,” the statement read.
Affected residents are advised to get the latest information on the water disruption via Air Selangor’s mobile phone application, website (www.airselangor.com.my), Facebook page (Air Selangor), or Twitter account (@airselangor).
