Two-time premiership player David King says there’s “no way” Jordan De Goey should sign his new deal with Collingwood, amid issues with the “arbitrary” behavioural clauses.
De Goey baulked at the Magpies’ five-year deal on Monday as he refused to sign a new contract until there was further clarification around the behavioural clauses proposed.
King says the contract comes down to trust – and if Collingwood don’t trust him, they shouldn’t sign him.

“No way Jordan De Goey should sign that contract,” he tweeted.
“It should never be permissible by the AFLPA, regardless of history.
“Don’t trust him, don’t sign him.”

SEN’s Sam Edmund had reported the behavioural clause could allow the club to terminate the deal “whenever they think necessary”.
“From what I have been told, the catch-all clause in the Collingwood contract for Jordan De Goey reads along the lines of Collingwood being able to stand down Jordan De Goey and terminate his contract whenever they think necessary,” he reported on Trade Radio.
“That is the ultimate catch-all clause.
“He doesn’t have to sign that of course, he can go and sign somewhere else. Clearly there’s a preference to stay at Collingwood.
“I think Collingwood will, if they haven’t already, give some ground here when it comes to the specific behavioural clauses of this Jordan De Goey contract.
The AFL Players’ Association has already come out in support of De Goey’s decision not to sign the new deal, stating it “does not support additional behavioural clauses imposed on players beyond what’s already in place through the standard playing contract”.
The AFLPA said attempts to add extra clauses to player contracts “undermines the integrity of this process and creates inconsistency”.
De Goey’s future remains up in the air as the earlier offer put to him by Collingwood was taken off the table earlier this year when the star found himself at the centre of a Bali nightclub scandal.
De Goey’s lewd actions while out with a female patron quickly made headlines across the country. The scandal came just months after the Magpies star spent a night in a New York cell for a bar scuffle last October.
The star’s other prior indiscretions include lying to the club over a hand injury sustained in a bar fight, drink driving, an indecent assault charge that was ultimately dropped in 2021.
On Monday night, AFL360 co-host Mark Robinson called on De Goey to sign the new deal – regardless of the clauses.
“Common sense behaviour! You’re a man! Take the deal,” Robinson urged.
“If you don’t want the deal, you don’t want to make the changes – goodbye! You are just a footballer, that’s all you are.
“You’re a good footballer but you are not bigger than the club.”
