Trackable pallets by Palltronics

The developer of a trackable shipping pallet plans to establish its first production facility in North Carolina, local economic development officials announced.

Palltronics, based in suburban Detroit, pioneered a pallet embedded with an electronic chip to allow companies to track shipments all over the world. The pallets, composed of a wood substrate with an antifungal and antimicrobial coating, can also last up to 10 years and feature an accelerometer, temperature sensor, and humidity sensor to monitor product quality.

The company says its first-of-its-kind pallet is sold out for the first three years of projected production.

Palltronics plans to invest up to $30 million in its debut factory, a 253,000-square-foot industrial facility in Mocksville, North Carolina, that will be able to make more than 4 million pallets per year. The company is scheduled to open its research and development center in Mocksville in May of 2022 before beginning production in the third quarter of the year.

Company officials cited the state’s available labor force and proximity to both ports and trucking firms for its selection of North Carolina. The project is expected to create 200 new jobs by the time the production facility opens.

Palltronics is eligible to receive incentives of more than $180,000 from Davie County and nearly $70,000 from the town of Mocksville.

“We’re delighted that such a leader in innovation has chosen our county for its first manufacturing facility,” Davie County Economic Development Commission President Terry Bralley said in the announcement. “The creation of 200 new jobs and its financial investment are a tremendous economic boost to the community.”
