For Huntingdon County Toys for Tots, plenty of events have taken place to help support the organization, even as they’re in the midst of collecting toys.
Additionally, distribution also starts at 8 a.m. and will continue until noon today, but this is just the first of distribution days.
“Our mass distribution days will also be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, and from 8-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18,” said Wendy Williams, coordinator for Huntingdon County Toys for Tots. “We’re also going to start collecting boxes from area businesses Monday, Dec. 13.”
All distributions will be at Huntingdon Fiberglass Products Inc. They can park in the lot closest to Memories restaurant.
Williams noted it’s not too late to submit applications.
“I know that other area Toys for Tots deadlines have already passed, but ours has not,” she said. “People are still able to call the number at (814) 506-8229 and do an application with us over the phone. It’s not too late to sign up in Huntingdon County.”
So far, 160 families have signed up this holiday season.
However, like in year’s past, Williams said it’s important that people know that if they’re getting help with Huntingdon County Toys for Tots, it’s important to not sign up to receive toys from other organizations as well.
“We all work together, and we share lists with one another,” she said. “All of us in every organization that does gift and/or toy distribution want to be able to help as many families as possible, so if they sign up for one, they can’t sign up for another. This way, we’re all able to reach as many families as possible together.”
Fundraising events have also helped boost the organization this holiday season.
“We had our Stuff the Bus and bake sale at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, which went really well,” she said. “We were able to get 315 toys and we raised $500 at the bake sale. It was a very successful day.”
Williams noted they also received a great financial boost in the form of a $4,000 check from Walmart.
Other fundraising events will be taking place today, including one at the Huntingdon Cinema Clifton 5. Beginning at 10 a.m. today, for the admission of one unwrapped toy, those who go to the theater will have the chance to pick from four movies to watch.
There will also be a no-tap doubles, four-game bowling tournament at Holiday Bowl at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12.
Also, a sale at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is also a great time to pick up toys if anyone is still thinking of donating an unwrapped toy for Huntingdon County Toys for Tots.
“They’re doing a 25% off sale from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12,” she said. “It will definitely be a good time for us to pick up toys for Toys for Tots.”
