Solan, December 8

Death toll in Monday’s fire incident at Yash Fans and Appliances industrial unit at Katha village in Baddi rose to three after the skeletal remains of two more persons were found today.

Commandant, Home Guards, Shiv Kumar Sharma, who supervised the firefighting operations, said that the firefighters recovered the skeletal remains of two persons from the rubble in the boiler section around 9.50 am and at noon.

The factory management had failed to convey to the police how many workers were stuck inside the plant when the fire broke out. Since the next shift was to begun at 9 am, cleaning was underway when the fire erupted.

Sharma said that the skeletal remains appear to be of the two women labourers who were reported missing yesterday. “As per the preliminary probe, it appears that male workers managed to escape when the fire broke out while women got stuck inside the factory after a wall collapsed and the tinned roof melted and caved in,” he added.

Around 50 firemen completed the search and firefighting operations at the gutted factory today and the simmering fire was doused completely.

Baddi SP Rohit Malpani said that a case under Section 304-A of the IPC was registered against the unit management an a probe was underway.
