Three Men Arrested With 470kg Gutka | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: Three people were arrested on Saturday for possession of 470kg banned tobacco products for sales at an apartment at Selvapuram in the city.
The Selvapuram police said they conducted a raid at the apartment based on a tip that its owner K Ramesh Kumar, 52, of Chokkampudur Road, had stocked banned tobacco products there.
“During the raid, we seized 470kg of gukta from the apartment. We have registered a case against Ramesh Kumar, his son R Subham Jain, 28, and their aide O Shokku Diwani, 19, under Section 24(i) of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act and arrested them,” a police officer said.
He said the father-son duo was running a provisional store at Ponnaiahrajapuram in the city. “They received the tobacco products from a wholesaler, who smuggled the same into the city from Karnataka. We have seized two bikes from them as well.”
All the three were lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison under judicial custody the same day.
