About the Position

The Source Cidermaker is responsible for the execution and oversight of all cider fermentations and all cidermaking related tasks.  

About Us

The Source Cider is a growing cidery based in Wenatchee Washington, providing premium juice and custom fermentation to cideries across the country. Working directly with cideries of all stages and sizes to provide access to quality cider fruit, bulk juice, and the ability to quickly grow production. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the daily execution of all cider making related tasks, including raw material management, apple & fruit processing, fermentation, aging, cold processing, packaging, and maintenance of utilities and equipment that support the cellar

  • Execution of blending and recipe execution for clients of The Source

  • Work in tandem with the Director of Operations for the creation of client recipes and recommendations

  • Ownership of production scheduling in coordination with Production Manager, including management of cellar/lab staff and physically processing cider as necessary to support production 

  • Standardize all cider processing steps by implementing an enhanced training and SOP program

  • Manage lab and develop sensory panel program; dispatch of samples to Source clients

  • Shared ownership of quality of all fermentations 

  • Constant communication and collaboration with appropriate Yonder and The Source team members to ensure production excellence

  • Inventory management of all tanks and in-process cider

  • Inventory management of fermentation materials and packaging goods, with communication on reorder needs to Director of Operations and establishment of reorder levels 

  • Receiving, storage and organization of unfinished goods onsite in coordination with Production Manager

  • Ongoing, consistent and accurate data input and management of EKOS (training provided)  

  • Responsible for proper execution of all cleaning protocols throughout team 

  • Responsible for relaying needed information to other departments for effective creation of state and TTB registration, labels and copy, and packaging specs for upcoming releases

  • Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed, as well as OSHA compliance and safe chemical handling 

  • Other duties as assigned/needed 

  • Execution of fermentation protocols for The Source

  • Develop strict SO2 management program for Source products in refer room

  • Lab analysis program for The Source 

  • Canning line management for runs related to clients of The Source

  • R&D for fermentation program (ensuring that our program continues to work and if it’s not, taking action to make changes where necessary)

Requirements

  • Must be 21+ years of age

  • 5+ years of hands-on cidermaking or winemaking experience 

  • In-depth knowledge of cider apples is a plus!

  • Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills; 

  • Disciplined, with an emphasis on detail, safety, and accurate record keeping

  • Ability to lift ingredients and kegs up to 55lbs and be on feet for full shifts

  • Flexibility in schedule as needed to work to completion

  • Ability to follow SOPs and aid in development of them
