Silent film aficionados and first-timers alike will get a chance to take in two classics under the stars.

Two Charlie Chaplin silent films will be shown, accompanied by live music, outside at The Old Dairy Factory in Norsewood from Thursday to Sunday.

David Selfe and Jeremy Fitzsimons will be providing the live music, which they have composed themselves to work in tandem with the films.

Selfe said it would be a seriously entertaining night of community fun.

The arts and entertainment world was having a really tough go of it at the moment and this was a good opportunity to put on something safe and fun.

“This is purely community stuff, we’re aiming this not for profit… we’re there to do something for the community.”

The gates would open at 6pm with food from a local cafe and musicians on hand to keep everyone entertained until it got dark and the movies rolled.

The first film, A Dog’s Life by Charlie Chaplin, would start at 9pm and be followed by The Kid, another Chaplin picture, at 9.45pm.

Selfe and Fitzsimons studied the films and then linked musical themes to the different characters so when a character came on screen the theme would change.

They would play percussion instruments, the piano, and even a musical saw.

There was some improvisation involved as well. Selfe said playing off the cuff was something he had been doing for most of his life.

He was expecting about 200 to 250 people each night and people should bring their own seating and blankets if it was a cool night.

Covid-19 vaccine passes were required and tickets could be purchased at the door or online at Eventfinda for $10.

Selfe said he’d never had anyone leave after the performance without enjoying it.

“Come along, it’s a great family night out.”
