We are The Good Society, the 2020 GABF Small Brewpub of the Year, located in the North Admiral District of West Seattle, and are looking for a full-time, experienced head brewer with a passion for producing a wide variety of styles.  

Problem solving, continual improvement, being acquainted with a range of brewing techniques, and having a strong desire to learn will be qualities of a strong candidate.   Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strong alignment with the mission of The Good Society.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Wort production on a 7 bbl indirect fired 2 vessel brewhouse
  • Cellar management
  • Packaging finished product into kegs, cans via a Wild Goose Gosling, and occasionally bottles via a manual 4 head counter pressure filler.
  • Plan and coordinate with ownership the ordering of necessary raw materials, chemicals, and other consumable goods
  • Execute existing recipes, thoughtfully and creatively craft new recipes, and manage the production schedule with input from ownership
  • QA/QC from grain to glass
  • Maintain accurate, detailed production records in all relevant tools including Beer30 and Beersmith (or preferred recipe development software)
  • Work safely and follow, develop, or enhance operating procedures
  • Participation in professional organizations, conferences, and training opportunities
  • Occasional travel for collabs and events

Working Conditions Require:

  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of conditions and with continuous, moderate noise levels
  • Routine pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, reaching, bending, etc
  • Work in excess of 8 hours per day on brew days
  • Be able to lift 55 lb bags and move 165 lb half bbl kegs
  • Able to safely handle potentially dangerous chemicals
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Aptitude to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment
  • Proof of full COVD-19 vaccination

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years professional brewing experience
  • Highly proficient communicator and the ability to positively engage with others
  • A desire to learn and grow as a professional in our industry
  • Possess a deep understanding of beer production in a professional brewing environment including proper material handling, yeast management, and fermentation knowledge
  • Lab experience a plus
  • Mechanically inclined a plus
  • Possess the ability to quickly assess situations and solve problems in a timely and effective manner
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and adherence to process
