Fiji has lost one of her preeminent sons with the death of renowned philanthropist and businessman Dave Aidney on Tuesday.
Mr Aidney took over the running of Williams and Gosling Ltd from his father Don Aidney and played a key role in making it the leading freight forwarder and customs agent in the country.
As a philanthropist, he organised the very popular Fiji Red Cross bed race in Suva in the 80s and also saw the need for wheelchairs in Fiji and organised for them to be brought over from Australia for people living with disabilities.
Mr Aidney was also involved in the Fiji-Australia Business Council and the Fiji-New Zealand Business Council and was a founding member of the Road Haulage Association, Freight Forwarders and Customs Agents, then acted in different capacities, assisting Government in these areas.
He was president of the Fiji Employers Federation from 2001 to 2003 and saw the transformation into the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation.
