KLUANG: A blaze at a textile factory in Mengkibol has been burning for over 12 hours.
As at press time, firemen were still trying to put out the flames that were first sparked early yesterday
Johor Zone 3 Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohamed Faiz Muin Mohamed Rasidi said the fire broke out at about 2am at the idle factory in Jalan Teknologi 2 of the Mengkibol Industrial Area.
Four fire engines from the Kluang, Renggam and Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Departments were deployed to the scene after an emergency call was received at 2.30am.
A team of 35 firefighters sprung to action upon arrival at the 3,716sqm factory.
“Efforts to put out the fire are still ongoing since we arrived at the scene at 2.42am.
“We expect it to take more than 12 hours to extinguish, ” Mohamed Faiz Muin said, adding that the packed storage and cotton textiles at the factory posed difficulties for the firemen.
He said the textile factory had not been operating for the past six months and nobody was in the building when the fire broke out.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and losses.
