Carr, the franchise’s first-ever draft pick, suffered through five miserable years with the Texans before he was ultimately released in 2006. Carr dealt with a lack of playmakers and a horrible offensive line setup, as Watson struggled with this past season.

Now, Watson wants out of Houston following a falling out with ownership.

Carr said the issues that Watson has with the organization stem back to when he played for the franchise from 2002-06.

“Obviously, I have some history with Houston, and unfortunately, I see the same issues that have been going on for 20 years there,” Carr said during a media chat on Tuesday. “Not that I was anywhere near the player that Deshaun Watson is, but I’ve seen what has happened to Deshaun. I’ve seen a tackle shipped out (Duane Brown), I saw one brought in (Laremy Tunsil). I’ve also seen DeAndre Hopkins get shipped out of town. There are just things you just don’t do if you have a player in the role of a Deshaun Watson. The guy is one of the best quarterbacks in our league talent-wise.”

Watson asked for a trade last month, even before the Texans named David Culley as their new head coach. Watson’s name has been linked to the Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins this offseason.

The Texans don’t have a first-round pick this season, as they traded two first-round picks to the Dolphins to land Tunsil in 2019. The Texans finished 4-12 this past season and their No. 3 overall pick is now in the hands of the Dolphins’ front office.

Watson could net the Texans some serious draft capital in a trade but Carr doesn’t think a deal is in the cards for Houston.

“They have some work to do,” Carr said. “They have to clean up what’s going on, and honestly, it’s something they’ve got to address because it’s been going on for too long there.”
