Madrid, January 26 , 2021 – Telefónica and IBM today announce Cloud Garden 2.0, the next phase of Telefónica’s cloud services platform, designed to accelerate the modernization of applications. Cloud Garden 2.0 is an open hybrid cloud platform built on top of Red Hat’s OpenShift and the IBM Cloud Pak. Now, Telefónica customers can take advantage of this technology to create and manage their container-based applications in a much easier way, as well as simplify and accelerate the implementation of new solutions.
The TIREA consortium (Information Technologies and Networks for Insurance Entities) is developing a new service offering based on Cloud Garden 2.0 to accelerate the digital transformation of the insurance sector.
According to a recent IBM study , the majority of Spanish executives (68%) consider that in the next two years the modernization of their infrastructures will be prioritized as part of the digital transformation of their organizations. Specifically, 82% say that in two years cloud computing will become a priority – compared to the current 68% – and 66% highlight Artificial Intelligence – compared to the current 40%. Spanish executives foresee that in the next two years they will apply automation technologies to all business functions, but especially in purchases, risks, supply chain and R&D.

With the integration of IBM Cloud and Red Hat OpenShift, clients like TIREA are able to reduce the complexity of their development processes and quickly bring new services to market in any cloud environment. IBM Cloud Pak also includes a number of programs that ease the transition to cloud-born development environments such as MongoDB, Red Hat JBoss, Red Hat AMQ, IBM WebSphere Liberty, and Redis, among others.
Cloud Garden 2.0 is housed in Telefónica’s Virtual Data Center, located in Spain, which helps its clients to experience connectivity with low latency and greater speed in the execution and management of their applications.
