Tax officer caught taking Rs 15,000 from pharma wholesaler | Vadodara News

Vadodara: A state tax officer by the anti-corruption bureau in Kuber Bhavan on Wednesday.
The accused Priti Vispute was caught red-handed accepting Rs 15,000 from a pharmaceutical wholesaler. Vispute had demanded the money to reduce the amount of tax and issue assessment order.
The complainant had received a notice from the office of assistant state tax commissioner around four months back regarding the payment of value-added tax (VAT) for the financial year 2015-16. The complainant reached Vispute’s office along with all documents. Vispute told him that double entries were made by him in his books of accounts.
For the error, the complainant was asked to pay Rs 12 lakh penalty along with interest and an additional amount of Rs 80,000 as tax. ACB officials said that Vispute later told the complainant that she can reduce the tax amount as much as she can, but the wholesaler will have to pay Rs 15,000.
As the complainant did not want to bribe her, he informed ACB. On receiving the complaint, a trap was laid and the pharmaceutical wholesaler went to pay the bribe amount on Wednesday. After a brief conversation, Vispute accepted the money and immediately ACB officials raided her office on the fourth floor of Kuber Bhavan.
ACB officials refused to divulge details and said that Vispute will be produced before a special ACB court on Thursday.
