JOLIET, IL — At a recent Joliet City Council meeting, Councilman Larry Hug declared that economic development around the city of Joliet is dead. He said it’s been dead since May or June. But Hug’s comment is not entirely accurate. After all, at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, representatives from Target, the city, Joliet’s Chamber of Commerce and other dignitaries will gather at the newly built Target Distribution Center off Route 6 for a ribbon cutting ceremony.
“This building is the first of its kind for Target,” a press advisory notes. “We will provide stores with operating supplies needed, shelving, signs, equipment –not merchandise for sale at the store. This will empower Target to continue to meet our guest demands and remodel hundreds of stores per year.”
Joliet’s new Target distribution center has an address of 3300 Channahon Road. It opened in recent weeks and now has about 100 employees at the building. Target said it expects to have about 300 people employed at the new Joliet warehouse by the end of this year.
