The South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) says it has procured the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system that will be installed at the Siparia District Health Facility by mid-June.
The announcement follows protests by medical staff outside the facility on Thursday. The healthcare workers said they have been operating in immense heat since the central air conditioning unit had broken down. The President of the Registered Nurses Association (TTRNA) also warned that protests would take place daily until the problems are solved.
In response, the SWRHA says it underwent a rigorous regulatory process to obtain the medical equipment which started in January.
It says as an interim measure, several large fans have been installed in the various customer and staff areas of the facility, while the organisation continues to be attentive to the facility’s maintenance challenges.
The authority adds that staff had been duly notified before they strike.
“Prior to these recent developments, as per customary lines of communication to them through their managers and supervisors, select members of the SWRHA executive management team additionally communicated these implemented measures directly and on site to our affected staff, today.”
The SWRHA further reminds employees to avail their healthcare concerns to the internal customer solutions desk.
Patients and clients are also urged to contact the customer service centre at 87-SWRHA (877-9742) for any matter in relation to healthcare.
