The Supreme court has stated that the “students cannot be left in a lurch” and that the Centre should work towards a possible solution which would help these students to continue their studies and pick up where they left off.

While addressing the issue, SC also advised the SG for the Ministry of health and Family Welfare to create a committee to look into the matter and provide students with possible academic solutions.

The supreme court further stated that while it understands the issues behind accommodating 20,000 to 30,000 students from Ukraine into Indian medical colleges, it should also actively work towards providing these students with a viable solution.

The apex court further told the Centre to coordinate with the MBBS students in an alternate academic mobility programme. the Academic Mobility Programme would transfer these students to other countries where medical seats are available in order to complete their education but would have their degree awarded to them by the parent Ukrainian university.

Along with the centre, the Indian High Commissions of various countries have also been asked to coordinate with the Centre and the students to find out more about the medical admissions, number of seats, etc. The petition filed by Ukraine returned students is likely to be heard next week on Friday.
