Supply chain issues delay SCRD flagship water supply project

A public update drop-in meeting on the project is set for Wednesday, July 13 at Eric Cardinal Hall between 2 and 5 p.m.

Church Road well field water will not be available for toasting the results of this year’s local government elections, according to a report to be presented to a Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) committee on July 14. That source says Coasters will be fortunate to have that supply available for 2022 New Year’s Eve celebrations.

“Due to global supply chain issues, the computerized controller of the pumps and motors is currently in fabrication and is not expected to be delivered to the warehouse for factory testing until mid-November,” manager of capital projects Stephen Misiurak’s staff report says. “Therefore, pump start-up and commissioning of the water system including the WTP (water treatment plant) is projected to occur in December.”

Public engagement continues

A public update drop-in meeting on the project is set for July 13 at Eric Cardinal Hall between 2 and 5 p.m.

Weekly updates are also posted on scrd.ca and the website includes an opportunity for the public to ask questions and read responses to questions asked by others. Since mid-March more than two dozen inquiries have been posted and responded to.

“The project is currently still tracking to be completed within approved budget,” Misiurak wrote in his report to the committee.

Staff have been updating elected officials at the committee of the whole level since the $7.58 million well field construction project (a monitoring and two production wells) began in March. The third report to the committee outlines that through August work at the site will include completion of the treatment plant building and the three watermains on Elphinstone Avenue. That work, which also involves final paving of Elphinstone Avenue and Church Road, should bring the longer-term vehicle traffic disruptions in the area to an end. In-mid to late September a permanent on-site stand-by generator will be installed.

The report is available on scrd.ca, as part of the July 14 committee of the whole meeting agenda. That meeting is slated to start at 9:30 a.m. and can be attended on Zoom.

With no committee of the whole meetings scheduled for August, the next chance for a report on the work to area directors will be the Sept. 8 committee meeting.
