Supersonic Jet Factory to bring nearly 700 jobs to Melbourne

A project to bring the world’s first supersonic business jet factory to Melbourne is making big strides this week. The state is pumping cash into the plant that could employ almost 700 people.The growing industrial city flanking Melbourne’s airport could have its largest member under construction by the end of the year. A company called Aerion is unveiling the design of its $300 million campus and the state is announcing new financing to accelerate construction and hiring. “This is a next appropriate evolution in aviation, and we’re very excited it’s going to develop here on the Space Coast,” Dale Ketcham, with Space Florida, said.Aerion wants to build the world’s first supersonic business jet. It would save hours on intercontinental corporate travel. In a solar-powered Melbourne factory, engineers and technicians would build the world’s fastest civilian jets made to run on bio-fuel. “We have the workforce to do it,” Gregg Donovan, with the Orlando-Melbourne Airport Authority, said.The company wants to have 675 people at work in the factory by 2026. It plans to break ground at the airport before January.
