Suntech completes 1.5-GW expansion at PV module factory

August 4 (Renewables Now) – Chinese photovoltaics (PV) maker Wuxi Suntech Power Co Ltd has completed a 1.5-GW expansion at its Wuxi module manufacturing facility.

The new production line was put into operation on August 1 following a total investment of CNY 490 million (USD 70m/EUR 60m). The facility covers an area of 150,000 square metres (1.61 sq ft) and features equipment for all mainstream technologies. The line is compatible with multi-busbar cells of various formats, Suntech noted.

Suntech’s president Jun Tang expects the company to add a further 8.5 GW to its four existing facilities by the end of the year.

As of the first quarter of 2020, Suntech has shipped more than 22 GW of PV modules in total to 100 countries.
