Striving to enhance the supply chain sector

Milton Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Scott McCammon.

More than 30 leading transportation and logistics companies in Halton and Peel, in partnership with the Milton and Oakville Chambers of Commerce and the Brampton and Mississauga Boards of Trade, have formed the Halton Peel Supply Chain Council.

The organization is dedicated to the advancement of the supply chain sector through collaboration, information sharing and informed discussion.

Supply chain companies in warehousing, distribution, logistics, transportation, tech, globalized trade and more are already a strong part of Milton’s economy. In fact, they are integral to the prosperity and future of Halton and Peel.

The supply chain sector, though, hasn’t always been fully recognized for the significant part it plays in the economic life of our regions. In some ways, the pandemic made the words “supply chain” and the industry more well known to consumers and others.

The Milton Chamber has been proud to partner with the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University and CN on the annual Supply Chain Summit, held each May at Granite Ridge Golf Club. Attendees of the summit wanted to keep connected and informed between these annual events. And so, the council was created.

The Halton Peel Supply Chain Council will tell the story of supply chains and engage with the communities and municipalities of Halton and Peel to strengthen the sector’s already substantial contributions in the areas of education, employment and sustainability.

The council is led by two co-chairs in 2022-23:

•Martin Roos, managing director, DSV Air & Sea Canada, DSV Global Transport and Logistics, based in Milton; and

•Julie Zurby, MP & L area manager, Ford Motor Company, based in Oakville.

The council will raise the profile of supply chains and emphasize the tremendous employment opportunities here. Halton and Peel regions have become a valued, strategic location as a national and international hub for warehousing, distribution and manufacturing.

The council, launched in late June with a meeting at DSV, will meet quarterly. An economic development priority of the Town of Milton is the creation of local cluster working groups. Thus, the chamber and the town will also be looking at Milton “chapter” discussions between the regular council meetings.
