Station Masters’ TU action: discussions with authorities today

COLOMBO (News 1st); A discussion will be held between the General Manager of Railways and railway station masters, who are engaged in trade union action, to resolve existing issues.

Railway station masters yesterday (23) withdrew from issuing tickets and initiated trade union action.

They launched a 48-hour trade union action in protest of the revision of railway fares, from 6:00 PM yesterday.

Sumedha Somaratne, President of the Railway Station Master’s Association, said that there’s several issues with the revised fare cited in the circular.

Meanwhile, the Railway General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara stated that tickets are being issued in line with the revised fares.

Commenting on the trade union action, the General Manager of Railways said that disciplinary action will be taken against employees who act against it.
