Staten Island’s got turkeys! But you’ll pay a few extra bucks for your home-cooked Thanksgiving meal.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Like many Staten Islanders this Thanksgiving, Edwina Martin of West Brighton heard daunting reports of food shortages, notably in the turkey department. The good news: Based on a casual survey of market owners — and general observation — Staten Island supermarket shelves are fairly well-stocked. And although sometimes more costly than in year’s prior, birds abound in markets from shore to shore.

Pastosa’s Vincent D’Antuono said his West Brighton store offers Bell and Evans birds, a premium item. He said he has enough to fill customer orders but noted that spikes across the board like he’s never seen before in his 40 years of doing business.
