State Parliament told the State Controller’s Office looking at logistics of distribution | The Advocate

news, local-news,

Planning is already underway for the distribution in Tasmania of a COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available. In State Parliament on Thursday, Independent member for Clark Madeleine Ogilvie asked Premier Peter Gutwein to confirm what action was being taken to develop a plan to rollout COVID-19 vaccinations. “All Tasmanians deserve to be reassured that the work is being done now to ensure they will have access to a free vaccination,” Ms Ogilvie said. “Tasmania has an older and vulnerable population, so it just makes sense that planning would be happening now to be ready to roll out a vaccine when it is ready. “We have heard in the media recently about potential risks to a successful rollout of a COVID-19 vaccine, from private access and exclusion of lower risk cohorts to distribution challenges.” IN OTHER NEWS: Mr Gutwein said it was an important question and while he did not go into detail he said the distribution of a vaccine was being discussed at National Cabinet. He said a working group within the State Controller’s office was looking at the logistics for distributing a vaccine when it was available. “This vaccine that has been already spoken of has to be carried at very low temperatures,” Mr Gutwein said. “As I said the state has for 100 years been able to get things into the State and out of this State that we have needed. “I have no doubt that we will be able to manage the logistics and the supply of the vaccine into Tasmania when it is available.” Ms Ogilvie said she was pleased that a working group in the State Controller’s Office was working on this “important issue”. “If the experts are right and we may have a COVID-19 vaccine by Easter next year, we need to see the roll out plan for Tasmania so we know how the vaccination of Tasmanians will happen.”
