St. Matthew’s Catholic School students help load, distribute free produce boxes to community – The Virginian-Pilot

On July 30, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and School was the distribution site for 220 farm-to-family produce boxes for a new program from the Mercy Chefs community kitchen. Mercy Chefs is headquartered in Portsmouth and is partnering with local churches to provide free produce to families. A typical box had green peppers, onions, carrots, nectarines, apples, potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage and a head of iceberg lettuce. St. Matthew’s Catholic School students volunteered to load the boxes into cars as they drove up, so it was a contactless delivery. The boxes were gone by 10:30 a.m. (Courtesy of Elizabeth Allen) (HANDOUT)
