A manufacturer of garden, agricultural, and industrial sprayers announced in September plans to establish a new production facility in Kentucky.
Chapin International, an upstate New York company that traces its roots to the late-19th century, will invest $5.5 million in a former plastics plant in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, about an hour south of Lexington.
The company said the facility will make and distribute a variety of metal compressed air sprayers, including products for concrete, landscaping, ATVs, and specialty handheld and hose-end sprayers.
Some of the plant’s operations will be relocated from current facilities in New York and Ohio, the company said. The project is expected to create up to 100 new jobs in central Kentucky in coming years, state officials said in a statement.
“There were many moving parts that included purchasing this 175,000-square-foot facility,” Chapin President and CEO Jim Campbell said in the announcement. “The town, county, and the state of Kentucky did an amazing job in bringing the project to conclusion in just under 10 days. We look forward to our part in growing American manufacturing in the great state of Kentucky.”
The state’s economic development agency approved a 10-year agreement with the company that would allocate up to $1 million in tax incentives provided Chapin meets hiring and wage thresholds.
