SPEC Group: Executing epic projects, worldwide! – News

Welcome to the innovative world of SPEC! A vertically integrated, single source premier solutions provider for turnkey projects, the SPEC group designs and executes customized projects– from concepts to commissioning — for a variety of industries…

Delivering excellence for over 15 years, the SPEC Group stands tall as an engineering, procurement, fabrication, project management, manufacturing, and construction service provider, implementing projects for oil and gas industries, refineries, power sectors, petrochemical units, well pad and pipelines, and water treatment plants.

Having executed projects in the US, UAE, Turkmenistan, Kuwait, Yemen, Kazakhstan Iraq, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan and so on, and with a global resource network of offices, SPEC also operates engineering and fabrication facilities in the Middle East, including the UAE, and in North and South America, Africa, CIS and the SAARC countries, to serve both the western and eastern hemisphere equally.

Priding itself on its robust leadership team, the SPEC Group is spearheaded by Zafar Ikram Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of Directors, who comes with 25 years of experience in oil and gas, aviation, agricultural, and refinery industries in the US, Middle East, South East Asia, Central Europe, China and the African region. Strengthening the pillar of the SPEC Group, along with Wanda Dolores Fajardo, Director of SPEC Group, and Matios Yeknia, CEO of SPEC Energy DMCC, Ikram Sheikh leads the 1000-strong employee conglomerate not only in the capacity of a business owner, but also as a technical engineer having an expertise in areas ranging from engineering, project management, procurement, manufacturing, sales, finance, operations, and asset management.

Project management

SPEC’s project management system supported by a modular approach that has been developed over the years of experience for budgeting, cost controlling, project schedules, material management, resource allocation, supplier evaluation, etc, is designed to fulfil client’s demand keeping in perspective both efficiency and financial viability so as to ensure that targeted budgets and deliveries are in firm control. With a well-structured division of responsibility between workshop package manufacturing and the EPCC team where applicable, all executed projects are monitored by experienced and accountable project teams to ensure strict adherence to both budgets and schedules.

Engineering

SPEC’s inhouse multidiscipline engineering resources are equipped to undertake technical projects for turnkey oil and gas processing facilities. From feasibility studies through conceptual designs, detailed engineering, design reviews and system analysis to testing, commissioning and plant operations, SPEC’s team of engineers cover all required disciplines including process, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil, static equipment design, rotating equipment, operations and maintenance, and provide creative and engineering solutions to meet the most rigorous standards demanded by the oil and gas industry.

For SPEC, every project is unique, and hence, specific technical scenarios are developed to meet its clients’ requirements.

Procurement

With a global network of offices, expediting centers and vendors, including blanket/purchase agreements for supply of instruments, valves, pumps and compressors, and specialized products, and a worldwide network offering sourcing options, disseminating market intelligence, etc, SPEC’s expert procurement workforce, led by D. Fajardo, who is also the Group Head of Procurement, ensures that all project procurement goals are met within targeted budgets and deliveries.

Specifically designed for the execution of turnkey projects, SPEC’s ERP system integrates with its inhouse supply chain management system to not only handle complexities of global supplier selection for all project materials, but also expedites and delivers diverse materials from distinct locations, and offers complex logistic solutions, thereby keeping all in close connection with project schedules. SPEC’s procurement procedure further ensures strict adherence to quality standards, national and international legislations, health, safety, and environmental protocols.

‘SPEC Manufacturing Facility Dubai, UAE’

Since its inception in 2000, the SPEC Group has had a strong inclination towards the oil and gas sector and with its existing facilities spread over 1.5 million feet, SPEC is equipped to handle the fabrication of the largest and most complex packages required for the energy sector. SPEC manufacturing facility at Jebal Ali Free Zone, Dubai is located just 500 meters away from Dubai’s bustling sea port, perfectly located to receive raw materials and ship out finished products to clients all over the world. SPEC’s UAE division is specially designed to handle modular refineries with its high bay and heavy crane capacity and is equipped with all the required certifications including ISO and ASME U, U2, S and R stamps. Comprising of three bays with 250 tonne lifting capacity, automatic welding machines, overhead cranes, in-house plate rolling, CNC machines DCS, PLC and MCC packaging, programming and testing, and other automated machinery like cutting, drilling and weld overlay SPEC is setup to fabricate the most complicated packages.

Combining decades of field-based experience and design expertise, SPEC offers both standard and custom designed processing equipment for onshore and offshore applications, helping customers manage and meet their oil and gas, produced water and solids expectations. In-house experts customise designs that carefully balance parameters such as optimal size, performance, and economic cost, to ensure maximum value for the customer.

For timely delivery of projects, SPEC has embraced two smart approaches: ‘Construction driven’ and ‘modularization’. In a ‘construction driven’ approach, engineering and procurement deliverables are focused on early award of construction contracts, mobilization at site, and maintaining a continuous workflow of onsite activities. Packaged equipment deliveries are planned sequentially to ensure equipment foundations and related construction resources are ready as soon as the equipment is delivered to the site.

The ‘modularization’ approach helps to minimize site construction activities and construction schedules, which are essential when operating in challenging terrains. During the EPC phase, pre-fabrication works of modules, piping spools, structural steel, and equipment items, including vessels and tanks, turbines, compressors, pumps, etc, are undertaken at various o¬nsite fabrication shops, such that all the fabrication and assembly activities take place in a controlled environment. There is greater control on QA/QC aspects of the project, and civil work can occur simultaneously with shop fabrication and assembly, thereby reducing overall project delivery schedule. O¬nsite fabrication greatly reduces on site safety risks.

SPEC’s corporate philosophy prides itself on building quality into each structure and system by using experienced craftsmen. The quality of material and workmanship for a proposed facility is assured by using SPEC’s long-standing proven procedures for design, engineering, procurement, material control, welding and installation. In addition to implementing quality procedures like the ISO 9001-2015 for project planning, risk management, cost analysis, procurement management, document management and reports, SPEC operates under the governance of ISO 14001-2015 environmental management systems, thereby minimizing adverse impact on the environment.

Continuously striving to enhance HSE standards to be in line with best industry practices, the safety of SPEC employees is of paramount importance, and hence, SPEC follows OHSAA 18001 and the international occupational health and safety management system. With millions of man hours worked, without a single Lost Time Incident (LTI) comprehensive labour and staff training program, the SPEC management team is vigilant about SPECs Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) performance. With a target of zero accidents, ensuring that no activities are injurious to health, QHSE SPEC is committed to excellence as HSE forms an integral part of its operation.

From North America to Africa to the Middle East to Asia, SPEC has been successfully providing customized solutions from concept to commissioning for a variety of Clientele in the harshest and most challenging terrains. Ensuring excellence in quality and reliability for global energy and infrastructure, the SPEC Group keeps innovation, integrity, safety and sustainability as its core priority in everything it does.
