Smoking section sets off fire suppression at Wiese factory

Smoke from an employee break area outside a Wiese Industries building triggered the fire alarm and fire suppression system at the factory late Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

The fire alarm was reported shortly before 11 p.m. in the welding building north of Bateman Street between Fifth and Sixth streets.

The automated sprinklers could be seen dousing the electrical transformers on the Rawson Street side of the structure.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders and Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded and assisted the factory’s employees in shutting off the fire alarm.
