Slow Food Springfield and the University of Illinois Springfield Sustainability Committee are partnering for the 12th annual Slow Food Springfield Film Festival at Brookens Auditorium (on the UIS campus) at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 25.
The festival will include a screening of the documentary “Seasons of Change on Henry’s Farm,” chronicling Henry and Hiroko Brockman’s farm outside of Congerville, Ill., in Woodford County.
The film follows the inner workings of the farm where the Brockmans grow 650 varieties of organic vegetables every year. The film also explores how biodiversity, adaptability and resilience come into play.
Terra Brockman, the film’s producer, and Ines Sommer, its direction, will participate in a question-and-answer session.
Slow Food Springfield will also present its Snail of Approval Awards that evening. The Snail of Approval is an intiative that recognizes those who are making significant contributions to the quality, authenticity and sustainability of the food supply of central Illinois.
The awards are provided in categories of educational entity, farmer, purveyor/retailer/wholesaler, restaurant and value-added producer.
Cost is $10 (cash only).
