NEPTUNE — ShopRite recently made some special deliveries to area food banks with donations of pet food, treats and supplies. The ShopRite truck dropped off pallets of much-needed pet products from vendor partners Nestle Purina, Mars Petcare, Smuckers Pet, Blue Buffalo, Farmers Market and World’s Best Litter.

FulFill in Neptune, a foodbank serving Monmouth and Ocean counties, was one of the recipients of the donated pet food.

Deliveries were also made to several other food banks, including the Food Bank of South Jersey, NORWESCAP Food Bank (NJ), Feeding Westchester (NY), Connecticut Food Bank, Foodshare (CT), Philabundance (PA), and Maryland Food Bank. Each food bank received six pallets of pet food, treats and supplies.

The donated pet products are especially important due to the increase in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pet owners who are struggling with job loss and food insecurity during the pandemic may also have trouble affording food and necessities for their pets.

Earlier this year, ShopRite and Wakefern Food Corp. donated $1 million dollars to regional food bank partners through the ShopRite Partners In Caring Fund to help meet increased demand due to COVID-19.
