Shipping company moving regional HQ from Piscataway to Georgia

Shipping containers are stacked and waiting.

Container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd America LLC is moving its North American regional headquarters from Piscataway to Georgia, it confirmed to ROI-NJ.

The closing of the Piscataway facility could cost as many as 149 employees their jobs, according to a federal WARN notice filed with the state.

A spokesperson for the company told ROI-NJ it is centralizing its activities in the Atlanta area.

The WARN notice indicated all affected employees are in administrative and clerical roles, and noted that some may be offered employment at other company locations.

Affected employees are eligible for severance in line with company policy, the notice stated. Employees who find work at other locations could see pay grow or shrink depending on a new location or role.

WARN notices normally cover mass layoffs or facility closings as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1989.
