Selma Police Department investigating theft at Food Bank Distribution Center – The Selma Times‑Journal

The Selma Police Department is investigating a theft that took place on Tuesday evening at the Food Bank Distribution Center.

According to Gospel Tabernacle Church in God Pastor John E. Grayson, frozen turkeys, hams and chickens were stolen at the Old Food Bank Building located on 497 Oak Street. Grayson also said the door was open and several other foods were spoiled. He also said that the Selm

“It dampens the spirit, but we’re still going to feed families for the Thanksgiving holiday,” Grayson said. “It’s disheartening to have someone steal food that you’ve prepared for Thanksgiving.”

The Food Distribution Center is sponsored in partnership with Gospel Tabernacle Church and Sonlight Outreach. Betty Olyrod, a member of Gospel Tabernacle Church is Executive Director of Sonlight Outreach. The food distribution center is where all food is stored, packaged and distributed to seven Black Belt Counties: Dallas, Perry, Chilton, Lowndes Marengo, Wilcox and Clarke.

Sonlight Outreach and Pastor Grayson, through a relationship with the Selma Food Bank, purchased the building in August.

The Selma Times-Journal contacted the SPD and calls weren’t returned.
