Second Harvest of the Big Bend helps Franklin’s Promise with food distribution

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Franklin’s Promise helped hundreds of families find food on Friday despite a heavy washout.

Franklin’s Promise distributed all the food Second Harvest of the Big Bend provided for their distribution, more than 18,000 pounds of food for more than 300 families.

Executive Director Joe Taylor says they wouldn’t have been able to complete the task without helping hands from the Conservation Corp, stepping in to protect their more senior volunteers.

“Well I’m particularly proud not just of our partners they got the food to us but our staff and especially the conservation Corps members because you know this is a very laborious, not easy task sometimes,” said Taylor. “It’s in rain last Friday and Carrabelle it was an extreme heat, you know the heat factor in over 107. But for the commitment for them to stay on and make sure all the needs are met.”

Taylor and his crew also deliver food to the elderly and medically vulnerable members of the community.

They plan to have another distribution next Friday.
